Especialistas acreditam que Putin esperava obter o controle do espaço aéreo ucraniano mais rapidamente
Entre todas as surpresas que o presidente Vladimir Putin encontrou desde que invadiu a Ucrânia no mês passado, talvez a maior tenha sido que a Rússia ainda não tenha conquistado a superioridade aérea.

Ao entrar no conflito, a Rússia tinha 1.391 aeronaves contra 132 da Ucrânia, complementada por 948 helicópteros contra 55 de Kiev. Parecia possível dar a Putin o tipo de domínio aéreo necessário para eliminar a resistência da Ucrânia. O orçamento global da Rússia para a defesa no valor de US$ 45.8 bilhões é quase 10 vezes superior ao do seu vizinho.

Para Antrobus, a duração depende, em parte, de quanto Putin está disposto a jogar para vencer o conflito – e se ele quer repetir as táticas usadas pelas forças russas em apoio ao presidente sírio, Bashar al-Assad, contra os rebeldes na guerra civil do seu país.
“Ele está disposto a imitar Aleppo e cometer atrocidades tão visíveis ao resto do mundo? Os piores dias da guerra na Síria aconteceram anos depois do início do conflito, e, infelizmente, as pessoas estavam prestando menos atenção. Esse conflito tem apenas três semanas”, completou.
Se Putin estiver disposto a ir aos extremos vistos na Síria, observa Antrobus, isso constituiria um risco muito maior para a Rússia, “devido ao armamento antiaéreo que a Ucrânia tem e que está sendo abastecido”.
